Bunbury and Melton Match.

On Saturday 22nd July we held our annual marathon shoot known as the Bunbury. The Bunbury is a Postal shoot with the Bunbury Archery Club in Australia. It is a double WA900 all shot in one day.  That is 180 arrows!

The first WA900 is also our annual match against Melton Mowbray Archery Club.  This year Melton were victorious, in the compounds it was  close with them scoring 2455 and Rutland just ahead with 2462.  But Melton's recurve team was much stronger scoring 2032 compared to Rutland's 1630. Giving Melton a total score of 4487 and Rutland a score of 4092. Congratulations to Melton Mowbray Archery Club.

Salvers are presented to the highest scoring Lady and Gent from Rutland shooting the double. The winners of the Bunbury Challenge Salvers were Peter Fox with 879 and Chrissie Mortlock with 756.

Well done to everyone who shot and thank you to the members who did the catering.

We will wait to see if we are successful in the Bunbury and hope to receive some leprechauns if we are.

Ontarget Competition Stage 3.

We were again drawn at home this time against Eagle Bowmen of Bedford. We were successful scoring 14 points and our opponents scored 7. We are now through to the quarterfinals.

Well done to the Rutland team of Peter, Oliver, Keith and Chrissie. Thank you to Paul for being field captain for the shoot.

Rutland Show 2017.

Ontarget Competition Stage 2.

This time we were at home and we took on Bingham Leisure Centre Archers and won, 14 points to 7. We even managed to finish shooting before the heavy rain started.

Well done to the Rutland team of Peter, Oliver, Keith and Chrissie. Thank you to Paul for being field captain.

Ontarget Competition Stage 1.

This was all new to the Bowmen of Rutland, we had never entered this before and during the winter season a possible team was found and it all seemed such a good idea.

On the 30th April four brave souls left the safety of Rutland after breakfasting in the County Town and went to find Soar Valley Archers ground to take them on in the first round of the competition.

What we didn't expect was the wind. Even our top compounder was putting in some threes. The other compounder who was only supposed to be doing the admin and organising but was somehow persuaded to shoot as the team needed a lady missed twice in practice and one arrows didn’t return to the safety of Rutland. After a very challenging afternoon for all who shot. Rutland scored 11 points and Soar Valley scored 10 points. Soar Valley were excellent hosts and made the Bowmen of Rutland team feel very welcome.

Well done to the Bowmen of Rutland team Peter, Oliver, Keith and Chrissie.

Birstall Match.

Congratulations to the Bowmen of Birstall who came to our ground to shoot the match against the Bowmen of Rutland on Bank Holiday Monday. This year they left victorious in the Senior competition. The Bowmen of Birstall scored 4114 and the Bowmen of Rutland scored 4073. This year the Bowmen of Rutland Juniors were the winners of the Junior match. Well done to all who took part.

Sad news of the death of Steve Cowley.

OBITUARY

It is with great sadness that we received news of the death of Steve Cowley who was an Honorary Member of the Bowmen of Rutland for many years.  Steve was our Groundsman for several years and he was so proud of the excellent attention it has received from Tony.  He was an active shooting member and his late wife Cath was always willing to lend a hand with our club teas and social occasions.  Following Cath’s death he became a member of Rutland Sailability and was a member of the Jubilee Sailing Trust (JST) famous for its tall ships training.  Both of which he enjoyed to the full.  He was a real “club” man and gentleman working quietly behind the scenes.  We shall miss him very much indeed.  His cremation is on Monday 6th March at 2.00 pm at Marholm, Peterborough.
